We had so many AMAZING local artist and craftspeople to pick from- thanks to everyone who applied! After much wringing-of-hands, we were able to narrow it down to a really great, select group of talented Bay Area folks for this year’s holiday Vagabond Indie Craft Fair. Check out the column on the right for a list (with links to their websites!) or the vendors for each day! And start “window shopping” for the items you might want to purchase from them as gifts at Vagabond.

Also, a HUGE THANKS to the SF Etsy Team (especially Katy Atchison) for all their help organizing this year’s Vagabond. As usual, they are co-hosting the event. In addition to the bake sale they do each year, to raise funds for the SF Etsy team to help continue connecting local indie craft & art business owners, they’ll also be sponsoring a FREE CRAFT TABLE! So you can purchase locally made gifts, and perhaps make a few of your own as well.

Vagabond will also boast a warm drink station, so you can sip on something to warm you up while you browse all the goodies we’ll have to offer. So come on out, support your local craftsperson, and please invite your friends to the VAGABOND INDIE CRAFT FAIR, Dec. 8th & 9th!

Patchwork Indie Festival Accepting Applications

The lovely ladies behind the Patchwork Indie Arts & Craft Festival asked us to spread the word… they’re putting on a holiday show in Oakland this year and they’re looking for applicants! This should be an awesome event, and applications are due by September 10th, so hurry up and apply already!

We’d like to invite bay area makers to apply for PATCHWORK INDIE ART & CRAFT FESTIVAL’S northern california debut in OAKLAND, ca this HOLIDAY/NOVEMBER 2012.

A BIT ABOUT PATCHWORK:

PATCHWORK has been attracting awesome indie vendors and strong crowds at our three southern california locations for the past six years. when patchwork co-founder nicole stevenson moved to the bay area we knew it was time to bring the patchwork goodness to northern california. the holiday 2012 season will mark our 20th show and we’ve partnered with some lovely local businesses including our venue, jack london square to put on an amazing event. patchwork features indie artists, designers & makers, artisan eats, food trucks, indie music and DIY crafting. please note that our vendors are selected by a jury after the applications are received. as makers and small business owners ourselves, patchwork creators DELILAH SNELL & NICOLE STEVENSON (random nicole) seek to build upon the handmade community by offering makers an affordable venue to show their goods, network and build their businesses and also produce CRAFTCATION: INDIE BUSINESS & DIY CRAFT CONFERENCE.

On Sunday May 6th, as part of the Vagabond Indie Craft Fair, Nicole Blum will be joining us and offering free sewing demos & workshops! She recently co-authored the book Improv Sewing with Debra Immergut, and copies of the book will be for sale.

The sewing world is about to go improv! Discover how to have more fun with your sewing machine in this free demo/workshop. Learn the addictive art of sketching with thread — an easy technique for embellishing inexpensive solid fabrics and adding a ton of personal style to your sewn projects. Take home a beautiful votive/vase for your home. Fabric is free–small charge for votive jar. Beginners welcome!

Nicole and Debra are the authors of the just-published book Improv Sewing: A Freeform Approach to Creative Techniques; 101 Fast, Fun, and Fearless Projects: Dresses, Tunics, Scarves, Skirts, Accessories, Pillows, Curtains and More. Nicole is an artist, crafter, blogger, and sewing entrepreneur who sells her sewn jersey creations through her blog, One Golden Apple, and at craft fairs. Debra is a writer and content packager, and senior editor at FamilyFun magazine. She blogs with Nicole Blum at Improv Diary.

Woohoo! It’s almost Vagabond time again!

The next Vagabond Indie Craft Fair will be held at Urban Bazaar on May 5th & 6th, noon-7pm.

We are accepting applications through March 25th. You can apply here, as well as get all the nifty details about the event.

We’re always on the lookout for fun “extras” too, like someone who wants to sell baked goods out in front of the shop to get people in the door, massage therapists who want to do free 5 min. massages to promote their business, crafty demos & 10 min. workshops people can partake in, and anything else you can come up with!
